What is New Student Orientation (NSO)

New Student Orientation occurs in the summer for students who will attend in the fall semester. It occurs in the winter for students admitted for the spring semester. During NSO you will be introduced to student life, academic policies, register for classes, and connect with new peers.

Is New Student Orientation Mandatory?

Yes for all the following students who have been newly admitted and meet at least one (1) of the criteria below:

-Just graduating from high school (New Freshman)

-Student holding an undergraduate degree from an institution other than North Carolina A&T State University, and will be pursuing a 2nd undergraduate degree (2nd Degree)

-Transferring from a two or four-year institution (Transfer)

-21 years of age or older with previous college history (Non-Traditional Transfer)

If you meet any of the above criteria, you must attend New Student Orientation.

Who does not have to attend Orientation?

If you are newly admitted and meet the following criteria, you do NOT have to attend New Student Orientation:

-A&T Online students (courses must be 100% online)

-Readmitted students (per the Office of the Registrar)

-2nd degree students who already have earned an undergraduate degree from North Carolina A&T State University

Do Parents & Guests have to attend

While New Student Orientation is not required, it is highly encouraged. Parent Orientation includes:

-Sessions from Key Service Areas on campus

-Campus Tours

-Sharing experiences with similar families

-Answers to the questions that your student may not know to ask

-Information about upcoming Parent & Family programs

-A connection to North Carolina A&T State University

If I don't have to attend NSO, How do I register for classes?

-Obtain written confirmation from the Office of New Student Programs (NSP) by calling (336) 256-2212

-Contact your academic college

-Let them know that you have spoken with NSP, and do not have to attend New Student Orientation (NSO)

-Ask for your advisor to assist you with course advisement & registration

Is there a fee to change my confirmed date?

Yes! The fee to change your confirmed date is $15.00 per date change.

Is the fee different, If I decided NOT to attend my orientation session?

No! All incoming students will incur an orientation fee regardless of attendance. There are no exceptions.

Is Housing provided during Orientation?

-YES! For New Freshman Students ONLY attending a two-day session during the Fall New Student Orientations

-One Night Accommodation

-Items to bring: Linens (extra long twin), Toiletries (soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, towels, etc.)

Please Note: These items will not be provided by the University

Students attending the Spring New Student Orientation will move into their assigned residence hall once orientation is complete.

Is housing provided for parents or guests?

-NO on campus accommodations are not available for guest

-Suggested hotels will be placed on the New Student Programs webpage with special rate

-All hotels are very close to the university

I registered for a date that I can no longer attend, what should I do?

-Call our office (336) 256-2212

-Send an email to orient@ncat.edu

-Be sure to include: Student Name, Banner ID, Email Address (personal & NCAT), and Phone Number

-There is a $15 date change fee per session change

-NSP will notify you of your next steps in the orientation process
