New Admits (degree-seeking students attending the University of Connecticut for the first time) below are some of our Frequently Asked Questions about Summer Orientation.

Campus Change (degree-seeking students changing from a regional campus to the Storrs campus for the Fall or Spring semesters), please contact us directly with any questions about the events being offered over the spring and summer.

What is the cost of Orientation?

The $400 enrollment fee reserves your spot with the incoming class and covers the cost of orientation. No additional fees are required.

Do I have to attend Orientation?

Orientation is required of all first-time degree seeking students (First-Year and Transfer) at all University of Connecticut campuses.

Students who choose not to sign up for an in-person Orientation session will have their admission to the university cancelled.

I'm thinking about changing my major. How will this impact my time at Orientation?

If you are a first-year or transfer student considering a change to your major, it is recommended you do so before signing up for an Orientation session, as certain Orientation dates are available only for specific Schools/Colleges. Changing your major before you attend an Orientation session will ensure that you get the most out of your advising and class registration sessions.

Requests for a change in your major (if you are a first-year or transfer) should be submitted at least two weeks prior to your Orientation session. If you change your major after you have been confirmed for an Orientation session, it may be necessary to reschedule your session due to the school or college's availability during the Orientation session you selected to attend.

If you wish to request a major change, please visit your Admissions applicant portal and complete the Admissions Decision Appeal & Change Request Form. Your applicant portal will reflect the most updated information once your request is reviewed

If you wish to change your major after the start of classes, please contact your School or College at that time, UConn Academics - School and College Information.

Does my fee bill (tuition) need to be paid/settled prior to attending an orientation session?

If your scheduled Orientation session is after the fee bill deadline:

Spring Admits: January 8

Fall Admits: August 1

then your fee bill must be settled prior to attending an Orientation otherwise you WILL NOT be able to register for classes. Even if you have a partial fee bill, (one that is not for the entire semester's expenses) it must be paid by the due date or you will not be able to register for classes at Orientation.

Your fee bill is considered settled if you have paid it in full or if your balance will be covered by one or more of the following conditions:(1) You are paying through the University of Connecticut Installment Payment Plan and your balance is current (2) You have been granted a deferment for an outside scholarship (3) You have completely finished the financial aid process with UConn’s Financial Aid office. Incomplete financial aid is not considered settled.

I can't attend any of the scheduled Orientation sessions. What should I do?

Orientation is mandatory for all first time degree seeking students attending the UConn Storrs campus. There are no exceptions to this requirement, so please plan accordingly with your summer or winter plans.

If you have an unexpected or significant conflict, please reach out to the Orientation staff at your campus by email.

Will I meet with an academic advisor during Orientation?

Yes, you will meet with an academic advisor from your school/college to plan your schedule of classes for the upcoming semester.

Once the semester begins, you will be assigned to a specific academic advisor.

Can my family help me register for classes?

We encourage you to discuss course options with your family prior to attending Orientation if you would like their input. Family members are not allowed to attend Orientation programming with their student, so they will be unable to directly assist you when registering for classes.

What are the rules and policies for students attending Orientation?

All Orientation programs follow the rules and policies set by the University of Connecticut's Responsibilities of Community Life: Student Code. Students who do not abide by the Student Code may be asked to leave the program and will be referred to the Office of Community Standards. Violating the UConn Student Code during an Orientation event could affect a new student's admission to the university.
